Keep CCTV Control in Maidstone

 

Maidstone Borough Council are considering relocating the CCTV Control Centre to Strood to help reduce costs.

 

Strood already monitor a number of other towns CCTV and it is feared by Maidstone Town Centre management that there would be serious implications for the safety and security of the towns residents, visitors and businesses if it goes ahead.

 

The main concern is loss of local knowledge from current local operators which help to keep the town safe.  Staff at the control centre have been nominated for national awards due to their skilled approach to the job.

 

Obviously with the recent budget cuts affecting councils it’s understandable that they are looking for ways to be able to save money, but the move of CCTV control to Strood does pose a potential increase in security risk.  Maidstone Town Centre Management feel that there are alternative options to work in partnership with others to retain control and existing staff within Maidstone at a comparable financial saving.
